Potential Local Parish Boundary Changes

You've likely received a letter over the weekend from North Yorkshire Council in respect to a Community Governance Review (CGR), which could potentially affect our Parish boundaries.

Map of the Dunsforths parish boundary

The background to this has been ongoing for some time, namely the inability of the Dunsforths to form a Parish Meeting. Hence NYC are looking at merging the Dunsforth Parish Meeting boundary with an adjoining Parish Council. We share a boundary with Dunsforth, as do Boroughbridge, Myton-on-Swale, Flawith & Aldwark and Great Ouseburn. Hence our inclusion in the process.

We’ve made the case to NYC, as has our County Councillor Arnold Warneken, that due to the disparity of our respective geographies, with the Dunsforths adjacent to the Ure/Ouse, that it wouldn’t be in their interests to merge with ourselves. One of their main priorities, namely flooding from the river, isn’t an issue within our Parish. A more suitable partner would be Great Ouseburn. Our understanding is that County Hall are in agreement with this and it is likely that any future merger will be with them.

However, please feel free to comment on the portal through https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/dunsforths-parish-cgr if you’d like your voice to be heard.

Regards

Rob
Chairman
Marton cum Grafton Parish Council
