Information about Marton cum Grafton Walking Football Club

About the club

  • 1 hour session every Saturday morning 11:00 am – midday.
  • We meet at the Pavilion 10:45 am to warm-up and have a beer/soft drink after the game in the Pavilion.
  • Gents and ladies over 50 years of age are invited; it is a non-contact sport and by limiting the number of touches to 3 before you pass, everyone gets involved and has fun.
  • We have 28 members ranging from 52 to 86 years of age.
  • We have the services of a very experienced referee – to keep everyone safe and happy.
  • Each player receives a full information pack and is invited to join the WhatsApp group, which will keep them updated of fixtures and social gatherings.
  • In October 2025, the Club will participate in an Overseas friendly tournament in Spain, and we organise social events during the year.
  • The ethos of the Club is Community and having fun. Our Club logo AMBITIO FACULTATEM is translated as “Ambition over Ability”!

What is walking football?

Aimed at adults over 50, the biggest difference to Association Football, as the name suggests, is that Walking football is played at walking pace, with players not allowed to run. This includes on or off the ball and includes jogging. Walking is defined as ‘one foot must be in contact with the ground at all times.’

One other big difference to association or 5-a-side football is that it’s classed as non-contact sport. Although tackling is allowed, this must be done with no body contact. A guide is attached with further information.

Benefits

We play on a small grass pitch on the Marton cum Grafton playing fields, with small goals and teams of 6-a-side. As in 5-a-side the ball must not go over head height, and all free kicks are indirect.

The threat of pain, discomfort and injury is reduced due to the combination of a slower pace and reduced contact. This allows people who have loved football but do not want to risk physical injury to get back to once again safely playing. It also introduces the sport to people who perhaps have never considered playing before.
